Director's Notes

2005 marks the 40th Anniversay of the founding of Hyde Heath Drama Group. In that time we have put on productions regularly that have been wide and diverse covering every aspect of the word drama. They have been entertaining and we have had wonderful support from our audiences over the years.

Pantomime has always been a great favourite, so this year it was decided to return to this very special form of entertainment.  Aladdin is the nation's second favourite pantomime behind Cinderella. It is like most pantomimes a rags to riches tale where good triumphs over evil in the end and everyone  lives happily ever after. Our Aladdin is an original pantomime that hopefully will get our audiences  booing, hissing, singing and cheering in all the right places. Feel free to let your feelings show.

Last year, our chairman Sylvia Brown celebrated her 80th birthday and before we started casting for our production she asked if there might be a small part for her so that she could tell her grandchildren she acted in her eighty-first year, naturally I readily agreed to her wishes. However apart from crowd scenes of townspeople there was no particular part that was suitable....so true to my word, I  wrote one especially for her - and  thus the Superheroes were born. You will see Sylvia along with Betty   Barclay, Joyce Guthrie and Margaret Edmeades in a different light - talk about the incredibles.

So, please sit back and let your imagination run riot as we journey to the land of old Peking long before it became Beijing. To a place of magic and mystery, genies and flying carpets and original Chinese take away.
