THE  PLOUGH

It is with profound regret that we will be saying “goodbye” at the end of the week  to Steve and Andy who has been our resident publican  for the past 5 years.

Steve has worked hard at integrating himself into  the community and making the pub the Village hub which it should be. Nothing has been too much trouble and his very pleasant and jocular personality will be sorely missed.  Working alongside him has been Andy , his son who upon leaving school became his father’s right hand man.

To both of them , we thank you for making the Pub such a community asset particularly with the wide range of culinary delights which has always been served with a smile and a joke.  Wherever life takes you I hope you will retain good and fond memories of the residents who you served so well.

VILLAGE  SOCIETY

The Annual General Meeting will take place in the Village Hall on Thursday 23rd November at 8pm.

The Society works hard on behalf of our community resolving many issues with the Council and challenging ones which need addressing. To appreciate more of their work “behind scenes” please make the effort to support their work which is done on a volunteer basis with no resounding accolades.

Just one in question has been the extra “Dog Bins” which have now been placed in the entrance to the woods in Chalk Lane and Keepers Lane.  Let us hope the introduction of these two bins go some way on reducing the antisocial  problems that have been prevalent for too long
.

VILLAGE  SHOP

Ruth is still in need of an extra pair of hands to help her with CASH and CARRY on a Tuesday morning. It only requires 2.5hrs of your time on a rota basis.   Surely there must be someone out there who can assist her.

VILLAGE  HALL

The AGM was well attended last Thursday evening when David Coulton stepped down from his position as Village Hall Chairman and Fete Committee Chairman after 30yrs service to our Community.  Our appreciation was shown and speeches thanking him for his unfailing contribution. Over the years David turned the Fete around to make it one of the most recognised and well attended event of our calendar.  One set of visitors to whom I spoke came every year from Cirencester in the Cotswolds. Such has been the high standard and many attractions which David so diligently sought out each year. Working alongside David has been his wife Ruth whose input should not be overlooked.   The only way to express this is “team work” and we thank her also.

A new committee will now take over and we wish them every success with the continuity of both the Hall and the Fete.

September 14th

HYDE  HEATH  VILLAGE  HALL  AGM  8.15pm Thursday September 21st Village Hall

By now every household in the Village should have received a notification of the above AGM.

Please read it carefully as it contains information about the continuation of the Village Fete which is under threat from lack of people coming forward to help organise and assist on the day.

If the Fete fails to take place next year it will have a knock effect for the Village Shop and the Village Hall .

David Coulton who has steadfastly overseen the Fete and the also Hall Committee Chairman is standing down after a marathon 30yrs dedicated service to our Village.

He has worked so hard for the community and now feels it is time to hand over for “new blood” to come on board.

HOW  MUCH  DOES  YOUR  VILLAGE  MEAN  TO  YOU ?

A date to note - Open Meeting of  Lt. Missenden Parish Council – Mon Sept  4th  at 8pm in the Village Hall when subjects to be discussed will include:

Grass Cutting - as Hyde Heath is not on the Council’s schedule.

Dog Fouling - this continues to be a contentious issue and the only way to address it is to unite in highlighting the problem and work together to resolve it without being the recipient of verbal abuse.

An additional Speed Indicator at the other end of the village and restricted parking near Rayners Residential Home, the School and access to Residents homes within this area.

There was a very good attendance last year so PLEASE make the effort to attend. Rather than sit at home and moan come along and be heard.

PARISH  NEWS

Father John our “Chariots of Fire” champion has an exhausting schedule of marathons still to be completed.  His valiant efforts are all going towards the Christopher Project for the Parish Church.  Please support him and the Project with contributions .

The Conservator and Builders will finish by end August.  There will be other fixtures and fittings work going on after that date from the beginning of September, but there will be full access to the Church again.

A new aspect of the Project is to recruit a team of people who will act as Volunteer Guides. These guides will be trained to describe the paintings – helping visitors to learn and understand more about the Church.  Gary Beynon will be the Chief Guide and the person who will lead the team.

Our Volunteer Guide Information event will take place in the Church at 7pm on Tuesday 3rd October 2017.

Fr John’s 1000 mile challenge for the Christopher Project continues in earnest having completed 35 Half Marathons out of 52 planned this year.  He is hoping to raise £150.000 of the £450.000 required to complete the remedial works now underway at the Parish Church.

An exciting brand new discovery of extensive fragments of a 14th Century “Doom” painting on the Chancel Arch by our conservators.

Thank you to everyone who has donated online at:  ukvirginmoneygiving.com/fund/vicars1000milechallenge

Contributions by cheque/cash or online will be very gratefully received. It is a wonderful project and deserves preservation.

Our clerical secretary Barbara Cann says he looks somewhat rough, so please support him.

HYDE  HEATH  VILLAGE  SOCIETY

The society works very hard on behalf of all residents. The committee and members work diligently behind the scenes without any grand outpourings of gratitude.

Recently the key focus has been on road safety. One Permanent Vehicle Activated Sign has already been installed on the common and another is scheduled for a similar sign at the Amersham end of the village and   additional warning signs in the area of the School and Rayners. There will also be new road markings to deter dangerous parking along this stretch of road to improve the safety of the children.

Another area of focus has been litter and fly tipping. 40 bags were collected at the Annual Litter Pick and it became clear that inconsiderately discarded dog waste bags are becoming a problem  at the the ends of the paths which emerge from the woods on Chalk Lane and Keepers Lane. To this end new waste bins are being installed. More recently 7 bags were deposited on the path in Harvest Bank .

LAND AT HYDE HEATH ROAD.

The 5 plots of land being auctioned by Barnard Marcus appear to be incorrect as 4 plots are still being advertised for sale on RIGHTMOVE.

There is another sign for SAVILLS announcing an auction.  CDC have been approached enquiring if it is aware of what is going on but as of the 18th July there has not been any response.

June 1st

I start this week’s Newsletter with the sad news that Tim Neale passed away on Sunday 28th June.  The following Obituary has been written by his close friend Dave Bevan

OBITUARY

I am very sad to report the death of our dear friend Tim Neale.  He was first diagnosed with leukaemia last year and was admitted to Stoke Mandeville Hospital over last weekend, passing away peacefully on Sunday evening. Tim was very well-known in Hyde Heath, having been Treasurer of the Village Shop for some years and then, more recently, Chairman of the School’s Governors.  All our sympathies go to Nell and their daughter’s Tamsin, Lara, Keri and Chloe and the grandchildren.

Details of the funeral arrangements will be posted in the Village Shop when known.

May 25th

Not a good week for news this week …….

FLY TIPPING  in KEEPERS  LANE.

40 bags of restaurant waste were deposited in Keepers Lane during the hours of 21st/22nd May.  Eric Clark took photo’s and informed TfB who came along and put cones around the multiple bags !  In the meantime, cars had driven partially over the bags and split them open.  CDC ( I hope by now) should be clearing the waste and with any luck and a following wind, the offenders, now indentified, will be prosecuted.

BREAK – INS

Following on from the above, a garage was broken into in Cedar Ridge during the early hours of  Monday 22nd  and 3 bikes plus other personal items were taken.

That same evening  cars in Saunders End were broken into and items removed.

The Police can only press upon owners not to leave anything of value in their cars and make sure they are locked.  It may be a small deterrent, but at least it is a start and someone may be alerted to noises outside.

POLICE  ALERT

Have given reassurance that security has been stepped up following the appalling events  in Manchester.

DOG  FOULING

I have received several phone calls requesting me to publicise this anti-social behaviour by some Dog Owners .  The pathway from Brays Lane to the Shop and on the Common has become a Doggy paradise latrine. There are enough Dog Litter bins supplied around the Village and despite this some dog owners really can’t be bothered to pick up their dog’s mess and leave it for children to tread in and possibly fall into.

One very kind resident came and removed all the dog’s mess from alongside the pathway which connects Westfield with Harvest Bank after I had counted 6 piles just left there by one Dog owner.  The same problem occurs along the pathway which connects  Westfield with Walnut Way.  Obviously these dog owners do not have a conscience .

WHO WILL VOLUNTEER TO CLEAN UP THE COMMON BEFORE THIS NEXT EVENT ?

VILLAGE  SOCIETY  UPDATE  PROGRESS &  PLEDGES FOR DONATION

Many thanks to the generosity of those who have already made a pledge for a donation, some exceeding all our expectations. In spite of this we are still short of our objective and have only 1 week to submit our total pledge. This is all to help with the improved safety of Weedon Hill/Hyde Heath Road for our children, elderly and every day pedestrians..  You simply have to complete the following : I agree to pledge the sum of xxx pounds as a donation for the road safety project  –

This has been a major issue for many , many years . Don’t let this opportunity fall on stony ground through lack of support and for the group of people who are working hard for the safety of our village.

March 2nd

VILLAGE  SHOP

Our Shop runs on the help of many volunteers as well as paid employees. This dedicated band of assistants keep the shop running and without future help the shop will be fighting for survival. Villages and village amenities are disappearing fast with ever reaching “new builds” and the green belt becoming another concrete jungle. With no public transport to speak of and the Age Concern Bus being withdrawn, please do not let this happen in our village.

There has been several requests over recent weeks for an extra pair of hands to help with marking up the Weekend Papers.  So far no-one has come forward. The task involves arriving at 6.30am to take in and mark up the paper rounds. It generally takes 2 people approx. 45mins to complete and you will need to do one weekend in 5, unless “swops” are required.  Contact Ruth in the shop on 774252 or 775967.

On the same theme – help is needed serving in the shop. We require cover for a Wednesday afternoon from 1 – 5pm.  This is a paid position. Once again contact Ruth on the above numbers.

MOTHERS  DAY

This important event in the calender year falls on Sunday 26th March. Cards and goodies are already in the Shop so there is no excuse for  “forgetting” this day.

SHOPPING BUS TO CHESHAM.

I have to report some very sad news for the residents who use the Age Concern Bus to Chesham.  Due to lack of support for this service it is  going to be withdrawn unless there is a sudden influx of passengers, it can no longer be a viable proposition. The decision to do this has been put off for some time, but now there is no option but to cancel the Friday bus and let Age Concern use the bus for another group.

Derek and his team have worked so hard to keep this service going as it has run for 30yrs , with the additional outings which everyone enjoyed so much .

Approval has been granted for a PVAS Sign and extra money is being allocated for School 20mph speed flashing signs and white lines on Weedon Hill/Hyde Heath Road.  The final figure will depend on our ability to raise the 50% required of the £19,000.00p needed. There are already 2 pledges and hope for more.

HYDE  HEATH   VILLAGE  FETE

This may seem far off  - BUT -  the committee who organise this event have their first meeting of the year on Monday evening 23rd January  at 9pm in The Minstrels Gallery in The Plough.

A lot of hard work and planning goes  into this annual event and David Coulton who spear-heads this very popular local fete with a small group of dedicated residents is always looking for willing helpers.  We have the same problem every year in getting people on board to help  with  setting up, car parking, clearing away,   being “a go-fer”  and generally just being involved.   More hands make light work as well as being part of a very sociable team.
